TEES Barrage International White Water Course was the venue for the British Universities and Colleges Slalom kayaking championships.

Over 200 paddlers from 27 universities braved horrendous weather conditions to test their skills and resilience.

Two paddlers from Tees Active Sports Academy produced excellent performances with Zac Allin representing the University of East London taking fourth in the K1 class on Saturday and a fifth in the C1 class on Sunday.

Bethan Kelly representing Durham University in the team competition on Saturday gained a hard won third place alongside her university teammates, Molly Agar and Chloe Ellerton.

On Sunday in the K1 class, Bethan from Hartlepool put in a fantastic first run and gained an individual fifth place.

Bethan said: ”This is my first year at Durham where I am studying history but between studies my training this winter has been going well and in difficult conditions I was pleased to contribute to Durham’s overall team performance, I am really looking forward to the Premier League Slalom season.”
