TWO figure skaters have returned medals after a 28-year break from ice skating.

Elaine Christopher, 53, and Michelle Jones, 44, hung up their boots three decades ago.

But both recently returned to the ice and have now won recognition across Europe for their skills.

They started training at Billingham Forum Ice Arena and were soon competing across Europe.

Mother-of-two Michelle, an accounts assistant for Wear Inns, travels down from Washington to train.

Elaine is from Durham and has two sons, and is the sister of skating instructor Alison Laws.

After a few weeks finding their feet and taking private lessons, Michelle finished first at the British Adult Championships in Sheffield.

And Elaine was not far behind, finishing seventh overall in the event.
