Col­lege hosts soc­cer fi­nals

HOP­WOOD Hall Col­lege hosted the Rochdale Schools Cup Fi­nals at its sports arena.

Ten se­condary schools from right across the bor­ough took part in the event.

In the Un­der 12 fi­nal, Sid­dal Moor Sports Col­lege took on Mid­dle­ton Tech.

In a tight contest be­tween two de­ter­mined teams, it was Sid­dal Moor who won the fi­nal 2-1.

The Un­der 13 fi­nal saw War­dle Academy go up against Car­di­nal Lan­g­ley RC.

One of the high scor­ing fi­nals, Car­di­nal Lan­g­ley put three past War­dle to make it a 3-2 win for the Mid­dle­ton-based school.

Sid­dal Moor were at it again in the Un­der 14 fi­nal.

This time it was Hollingworth Academy who were beaten, the even­tual score be­ing 3-0.

Hollingworth’s Un­der 15s then faced St Cuth­bert’s RC.

De­spite both sides dis­play­ing a high level of qual­ity in their game, St Cuth­bert’s came out on top af­ter ex­tra time to take the U15 crown 3-1.

The Un­der 16 Fi­nal was con­tested be­tween Oul­der Hill Com­mu­nity and St Cuth­bert’s RC.

Once again, it was St. Cuth­bert’s tak­ing the fi­nal with a 3-1 win.

Mike Rud­kowskyj, sec­re­tary of Rochdale Metro Schools FA, said: “There were some re­ally good games of foot­ball, all the schools played in the right spirit.

“The stu­dents all seemed to en­joy them­selves and there were some promis­ing signs for lo­cal talent.”
