College hosts soccer finals
HOPWOOD Hall College hosted the Rochdale Schools Cup Finals at its sports arena.
Ten secondary schools from right across the borough took part in the event.
In the Under 12 final, Siddal Moor Sports College took on Middleton Tech.
In a tight contest between two determined teams, it was Siddal Moor who won the final 2-1.
The Under 13 final saw Wardle Academy go up against Cardinal Langley RC.
One of the high scoring finals, Cardinal Langley put three past Wardle to make it a 3-2 win for the Middleton-based school.
Siddal Moor were at it again in the Under 14 final.
This time it was Hollingworth Academy who were beaten, the eventual score being 3-0.
Hollingworth’s Under 15s then faced St Cuthbert’s RC.
Despite both sides displaying a high level of quality in their game, St Cuthbert’s came out on top after extra time to take the U15 crown 3-1.
The Under 16 Final was contested between Oulder Hill Community and St Cuthbert’s RC.
Once again, it was St. Cuthbert’s taking the final with a 3-1 win.
Mike Rudkowskyj, secretary of Rochdale Metro Schools FA, said: “There were some really good games of football, all the schools played in the right spirit.
“The students all seemed to enjoy themselves and there were some promising signs for local talent.”
