AMUM of two from Middleton is getting ready for the national finals of a beauty pageant after being crowned Miss Manchester in the regional heats.

Emma Mansell took the top prize at the Miss Elegant North competition in Southport in November of last year and will now compete for the title of Miss British Isles next month.

She started modelling again, having done a bit when she was younger, after being spotted on Facebook while exploring child modelling options for her 11-yearold son Brandon.

Emma, who has lived in Middleton since she was four years old, had a portfolio done and was then contacted by Model Guides who put her in touch with a talent agency – and the rest is history.

She said: “This is the first time I have ever entered a beauty pageant, I am very excited.

“I returned to modelling in September last year and I am doing pretty well. I am part Swedish and I have short blonde hair, so I have a bit of a different look to your average model.

“I have been working pretty hard but I am really enjoying it.”

Emma says she is looking forward to the Miss British Isles contest, which will take place in Chester on June 18, but she is also nervous about it.

“I am very focused and ambitious, but I do get nervous like anyone else,” she said. “I just want to do myself proud, and I really want Manchester to be proud of me as well.

“I am a Manchester girl through and through and I will be representing our great city, so I want to make sure I do a good job.”

As well as Brandon, Emma has a 16-year-old daughter, Leila.

“My son is a real boys boy,” she said. “He will be coming to see me at the final with my dad, but I think my kids are just a bit bemused by it to be honest. There aren’t many other mums doing what I’m doing.

“My friends are all really proud of me and I have had a lot of support from them and from the community on Facebook.

“It can be a bit overwhelming sometimes – I feel very humbled.”
