Achillea ‘moonshine’

Achillea, or yarrow as it is commonly known, is in full swing this week.

It’s named after the mythological character Achilles, whose soldiers used yarrow to treat their wounds. I love the magical transformation of grey flower buds into sulphur yellow flowers. They shine like beacons even when the sun isn’t out.

The grey foliage lets you know this is a plant that enjoys a sunny dry position.

‘Lilac Beauty’ is a very different variety with, as you might guess, lilac flower heads.

All Achillea are very popular with bees and butterflies.
