PENNINE Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is hosting a free ‘talk and tour’ of a new dementia unit.

The new 10-bed Oasis unit at Rochdale Infirmary will offer patients from Middleton, Heywood and Rochdale who present or who are referred to the hospital with a safe and suitable purpose-built environment to support recovery, as well as access to nursing and mental health staff.

The event will be an opportunity for staff, the public and trust members to enjoy a cup of tea and biscuit and to speak with staff and patients to learn more about the condition and how to cope with it.

The unit is believed to be the first of its kind in a hospital setting in England.

The service is provided by a team of doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals. Along with a social worker from Rochdale council social services, the staff have specialist skills in elderly care, dementia and mental health care.

The tour takes place on Wednesday, August 30, between 2pm and 3pm.

Spaces are limited on the tour. To book a place contact Angela Greenwood on 01706 517302 or email membership@pat.nhs.uk

Walkers marched from Middleton to Manchester city centre over the weekend on the Annual Peterloo Memorial March.
