Ferry girl’s sea plunge rescue
A PASSENGER cheated death after falling from a ferry in the North Sea.
The 23-year-old woman from Welwyn Garden City, Herts, was on the Princess Seaways ship travelling from Newcastle to Ijmuiden, Holland, on Monday night.
The Humber Coastguard was alerted after she mysteriously fell into the sea, 20 miles north east of Flamborough Head, East Yorks.
A Sea King rescue helicopter was scrambled and lifeboat crews were put on standby, but it was the ferry’s own rescue boat which pulled her to safety after 30 minutes in the water.
She was then winched onto the helicopter and flown to nearby Scarborough Hospital, where she was checked for hypothermia and kept in overnight before being released.
