Carer stole oldies’ rings

A NURS­ING home carer who stole rings from the fingers of el­derly res­i­dents has been jailed.

Josephine Tang­o­nan ( ad­mit­ted pulling four rings off two bed­bound women aged 91 and 98, then pawn­ing them.

Po­lice re­cov­ered three rings from pawn­bro­kers which bought them for £105. A signet ring worth £500 has not been traced.

Filipino Tang­o­nan, 36, who is in the UK on a stu­dent visa, has an el­derly mother who cares for her 14-year-old daugh­ter, Old­ham Mag­is­trates were told.

But jail­ing her for seven months, District Judge James Prowse, said: “The ef­fect of your crime is not just on the vic­tims and fel­low res­i­dents but also the pub­lic’s con­fi­dence in the care sys­tem.”
