Carer stole oldies’ rings
A NURSING home carer who stole rings from the fingers of elderly residents has been jailed.
Josephine Tangonan ( admitted pulling four rings off two bedbound women aged 91 and 98, then pawning them.
Police recovered three rings from pawnbrokers which bought them for £105. A signet ring worth £500 has not been traced.
Filipino Tangonan, 36, who is in the UK on a student visa, has an elderly mother who cares for her 14-year-old daughter, Oldham Magistrates were told.
But jailing her for seven months, District Judge James Prowse, said: “The effect of your crime is not just on the victims and fellow residents but also the public’s confidence in the care system.”
