Fire ‘hero’ escapes jail
A THIEF escaped jail after claiming he’d rescued four people from a house fire hours before a court appearance.
David Moffatt, 41, ( was coughing from the effects of smoke inhalation as he stood in the dock at Gloucester Crown Court.
He admitted breaching a 12-month community order by missing an appointment with his supervisor.
He also admitted missing a psychiatric meeting and another with his supervisor on Sept 7.
Moffatt received the community order and a six-month drugs rehab after admitting snatching a mobile phone.
A judge gave him two weeks to prove himself and cops are investigating the fire.
