Fire ‘hero’ es­capes jail

A THIEF es­caped jail af­ter claim­ing he’d res­cued four peo­ple from a house fire hours be­fore a court ap­pear­ance.

David Mof­fatt, 41, ( was cough­ing from the ef­fects of smoke in­hala­tion as he stood in the dock at Glouces­ter Crown Court.

He ad­mit­ted breach­ing a 12-month com­mu­nity or­der by miss­ing an ap­point­ment with his su­per­vi­sor.

He also ad­mit­ted miss­ing a psy­chi­atric meet­ing and an­other with his su­per­vi­sor on Sept 7.

Mof­fatt re­ceived the com­mu­nity or­der and a six-month drugs re­hab af­ter ad­mit­ting snatch­ing a mo­bile phone.

A judge gave him two weeks to prove him­self and cops are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the fire.
