Spare tyre driver back on the bus
AN OBESE bus driver who was too fat to get behind the wheel has returned to his job after shedding 50 pounds!
Neil Collins, 51, was deemed too fat at 22 stone ( above) to drive passengers around his hometown of Newport, South Wales.
A routine medical last year found he was three stone over the recommended limit for a driver’s comfort and well-being.
Newport Bus could have sacked Neil, but instead helped him lose the weight so he could keep his job of 11 years.
Colin said: “I feel so much fitter and healthier. I cut out foods like pies, chips, crisps and bread.
“People say they don’t recognise me from what I used to look like.
“I’m so happy to be back as a bus driver again and grateful for the opportunity Newport Bus gave me.”
Scott Pearson, MD of Newport Transport, said: “ Being a bus driver meant a lot to Neil and we wanted to make sure that he could keep doing the job he loved.”
