Su­per Sam’s top man

SAM TOMKINS has been named Su­per League player of the year by the Rugby League Writ­ers’ As­so­ci­a­tion.

The 22-year-old Wi­gan and Eng­land full-back, who fin­ished the reg­u­lar sea­son as lead­ing tryscorer on 26, beat Castle­ford stand-off Rangi Chase into sec­ond spot.

Tomkins said: “I am very hon­oured. It’s al­ways nice to

play­ers Tim Bres­nan, Chris Trem­lett and Eoin Mor­gan (right) have been handed 12month cen­tral con­tracts.

The trio are part of a 13-man squad given deals un­til Septem­ber 2012.

National se­lec­tor Ge­off Miller said: “The cen­tral con­tracts are de­signed to re­ward play­ers who pick up awards, although it is not some­thing you think about all year.

“It’s a team sport and there’s an­other 16 play­ers in ev­ery game do­ing their bit to make my job a lit­tle bit eas­ier. A lot of it is down to the lads.” per­form well con­sis­tently for Eng­land.

“All three have made sig­nif­i­cant con­tri­bu­tions to the team’s suc­cess.

Paul Colling­wood hasn’t had his con­tract re­newed af­ter re­tir­ing from in­ter­na­tion­als in Jan­uary.
