The Dutch midfielder was furious after being axed from Tottenham’s European squad despite making progress on his comeback from a hamstring injury.

He claims Spurs did not tell him he would be sitting out their group games, starting with Greek side PAOK on Thursday.

“I still think it’s a peculiar situation,” said Van der Vaart.

“Spurs could at least have consulted me.”

Van der Vaart made a miracle recovery from his hamstring trouble after travelling to Holland to meet specialist Dick van Toorn.

He was up for playing against PAOK but has now set his sights on Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday.

“It’s at the point of no return,” he added. “I will be focusing on the game against Liverpool.

“I’m pretty convinced I will be fit by then, thanks to Dick van Toorn.”

Redknapp wants to use his fringe players against PAOK and save his first-teamers for the Liverpool clash.

Jake Livermore will start and players such as Ledley King will get a rest.

Brad Friedel will also miss out as he was not included in the European squad.

It means Heurelho Gomes and Carlo Cudicini will battle it out for the No1 jersey.

Gomes wants to leave the club and Corinthians are interested in taking him back to Brazil after he has fallen down the pecking order at White Hart Lane.

He was not even on the bench against Wolves at the weekend.
