Ferguson has left Rio Ferdinand in Manchester after the defender returned from a hamstring problem in the 5-0 win over Bolton at the weekend. That means Chris Smalling good season. I just want to keep working hard and I know I’ll get more goals.”

After heavy defeats to Man United and neighbours City, beating Wolves was exactly what Redknapp and his squad needed.

The long-running Luka Modric transfer saga also disrupted the squad’s earlyseason form, but club captain Ledley King thinks their troubled start is now well and truly behind them.

“All the deals have been done. We have our team now and I suppose it’s a case of just getting on with it,” King said.

“There’s no wondering if anyone else is coming in or if anyone is leaving. We have our squad now and we are settled. I think that showed on Saturday.”

King, who has been told by Redknapp that he needs to play 20 games this year to earn a new contract, was playing his first game of the season on Saturday after having an operation on his knee this summer.

And he admits he was relieved to get through the game unscathed.

“I came through okay,” said the 30-year-old.

Veteran Giggs believes big rivals Man City will struggle in their first Champions League campaign.

Roberto Mancini’s men kick off against Napoli tonight and also face Bayern Munich and Villarreal in their group.

And winger Giggs has cranked up the pressure on United’s big rivals by insisting that even hard cash can’t buy experience of juggling domestic football and the Champions League.

“City will be right up there because of the quality they have and the money,” said Giggs.

“They’ve been able to go out and buy so many top players, but the real test is the first season in the Champions League. Tottenham found it out to a degree.

“We found it tough early on to get that mix of playing a Champions League game, which takes so much out of you, and then having a hard Premier League game the following weekend.

“You need the squad to handle it, so it’ll be interesting to see if they can do what ourselves, Arsenal and Chelsea have managed to do over the years.”
