Berlusconi’s Beeb battle

Midweek Sport - - NEWS -

THE TV network owned by embattled Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi’s family is facing a legal battle with BBC over plans for a raunchy new show.

Beeb bosses claim that Mediaset, Berusconi’s business, has copied the format of Strictly Come Dancing.

Baila! will be screened on Italy’s Chanel 5 and bosses insist it is based on a South American show called Dancing For A Dream, not the BBC’s popular version.

A spokesman for the BBC said: “BBC Worldwide takes the protection of its copyright extremely seriously.

“It is very important to BBC Worldwide and its international licensees that the format is protected.”

But Mediaset doesn’t agree, claiming that its show has significant differences.
