Banks goes where the bodies are

Midweek Sport - - NEWS -

TERRIFIED actor Stephen Tompkinson says he was surrounded by dozens of real-life CORPSES while filming gritty new cop show DCI Banks.

The star, 45, ( above) says the brave crew filmed gruesome scenes for the ITV1 drama in a working mortuary.

And witnessing the effects of death on cadavers at first hand was “not pretty”, he said.

Tompkinson, who plays Detective Chief Inspector Alan Banks in the acclaimed show, explained: “We were filming in a working mortuary, just outside Bradford.

“There wasn’t a lot of conversation when we realised there were 30 corpses held there.

“As part of his investigation, Banks learns what can happen to a skull when it reaches 1,200 degrees C in a fire — and it isn’t exactly pretty!”

You can see DCI Banks on ITV1 on Fridays at 9pm.
