Midweek Sport - - NEWS -

A GUEST at a christening needed 50 stitches after he was glassed in the face by a thug who mistook him for a Blackpool FC fan.

Victor Lisowski, 25, ( above) was left with a scar running from his left eye to his chin.

Attacker Benjamin Owen, 27, was jailed for five years after he was convicted of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Owen was enjoying the celebration at Heaton Cricket Club, in Bolton, when he fell out with Mr Lisowski over a joke about his orange tie.

Owen asked Mr Lisowski if he was “a tangerine” — a fan of Blackpool FC.

Mr Lisowski, who is not a football follower, didn’t understand and pushed him away. Owen responded by smashing his pint glass into his face.

The injury, was described as “horrific” at Bolton Crown Court.

Judge Charles Bloom said: “It started with a misunderstanding. You were intending to be jocular, but he didn't get the joke.”
