NAISMITH ELBOWED FOR TWO MATCHES
RANGERS striker Steven Naismith has been handed a two-match suspension for swinging an elbow at Dunfermline defender Austin McCann.
The Scotland star was retrospectively banned after an SFA compliance officer assessed TV evidence of the incident which referee Ian Brines failed to spot.
A Rangers spokesman said: “Steven has already had an apology accepted by Austin and there was no deliberate intent to make contact with the player.”
“Manager Ally McCoist supports the new SFA fast-track process and trusts it will be applied fairly to all clubs.”
After initially escaping punishment, Naismith bagged two goals in Saturday’s 4-0 romp at East End Park.
The ban rules Naismith out of SPL clashes with Kilmarnock and Hibs.
