AN Uncle Albert lookalike appeared in court yesterday charged with driving an electric mobility scooter while more than FOUR TIMES the drink-drive limit.

Bearded James Spangenberg-ferrelli – who looks like the character from Only Fools and Horses – walked into court using a stick.

He was said to have been driving along a lane in Tiverton, Devon, while unfit through drink. The 64-year-old did not enter a plea.

His solicitor told Exeter magistrates: “The issue is that his mobolity scooter was on a public place but it was a footpath.

“The issue is also whether or not he was driving a mechanically propelled vehicle.”

He said certain mobility scooters are exempt as such and claimed that the defendant does not need a licence.

Mr SpangenbergFerrelli told the court: “I never drive it on the road. It’s too dangerous.”

He will return to court in the New Year.
