Bill’s blast for Kate’s bird blasts

BRAVE bird lover Bill Oddie is taking on the nation’s favourite newlywed for shooting game.

Britain’s best-known ornithologist said he felt “despair” that Kate Middleton, who became a world icons after marrying Prince Wills in April, has not taken the opportunity to break away from “needless and bloodthirsty” traditions.

The 29-year-old was spotted last month perfecting her shooting skills at Balmoral for the Queen’s traditional Boxing Day pheasant shoot at Sandringham, Norfolk.

Oddie ( above), 70, wrote: “Disappointment and despair were amongst my emotions at seeing Kate Middleton toting a rifle.

“The Duchess of Cambridge has a real opportunity to set a different, 21st century kind of example. Sadly she has not taken it.

“As little as 200 years ago, people were shooting game for food – but those days are long gone. Some argue that most game isn’t wild, but I honestly believe that breeding birds for death is even worse.”
