GAGS Kids’ great Xpectations
MOST British mums and dads worry their children expect too much in the way of presents for Christmas, a study shows.
A Family and Parenting Institute survey found that 55 per cent with kids under 18 fear they’ll be disappointed.
Four in five parents with children under 18 think Christmas makes kids more materialistic.
And almost 90 per cent believe advertising puts pressure on mums and dads to spend more than they can afford.
The Institute’s chief executive, Dr Katherine Rake, said the shock statistics show that “the commercialisation of Christmas causes parents significant strain”, adding “Tough economic times make the issue all the more significant.”
