MURPHY ORDERS KO PUNCH
BIRMINGHAM v MARIBOR Thursday – Kick-off 8.05pm
DAVID MURPHY insists Birmingham will keep their side of the bargain in their Europa League climax.
Blues must beat Maribor at St Andrew’s and hope Braga defeat Club Brugge if they are to reach the knockout stages.
Chris Hughton’s men trail the Belgian and Portuguese teams by three points but are pinning their qualifying hopes on a superior head-to- head record against Club Brugge.
Maribor have managed just one point in Group H so far and Murphy insisted: “We are confident we can beat anyone at St Andrew’s.
“We are looking forward to it and we will do the job we need to do – but we obviously need the other result to go our way.
“I think we’ve had a good crack at Europe this year. We have been disappointed on certain occasions but we have played well in the competition.
“All we can do is win our game and see what the others do.”
Blues have recovered from their recent slump after Saturday’s last-gasp win over Doncaster ended a run of three straight defeats.
“We’re still in a decent position in the league, but we have got to win those games in hand,” he added.
“We lost at Hull when maybe we should have come away with something.
“But hopefully that’s the end of the bad run.”
