WE WON’T LET STICK HURT US, VOWS MATT
BESIKTAS v STOKE Tonight – Kick-off 6pm
MATTHEW ETHERINGTON has told the critics lining up to snipe at Stoke: We don’t care.
Potters winger Etherington insists Stoke’s streetfighters don’t give a hoot about the flak they get for their style of play.
Spurs crashed to their first defeat in 11 games on Sunday but Tony Pulis’ men were still mauled for their abrasive approach.
Etherington scored twice in the stirring 2-1 win and Stoke are now preparing for their final Europa League Group E game against Besiktas.
And the former Spurs star insists it’s time to finally give the Potters some praise.
He said: “We play a certain way at times and it works for us.
“But look at the game on Sunday. There were times when we got the ball on the floor, but people don’t notice that.
“We have good players. We wouldn’t do what we are doing without good players.
“But we’ll get on with it and let people say what they want.
“We ran ourselves into the ground. Full credit to the players for doing that – it’s what the manager wants from us and we work hard for each other.
“It’s quite special in this side. You don’t always get that from one to 11, but that’s what we have.”
A win or draw will secure Stoke top spot in the group, which guarantees they avoid a seeded team in the KO stage.
