Man quizzed over ‘ter­ror of­fence’

A STU­DENT is be­ing held on sus­pi­cion of a ter­ror­ism of­fence af­ter be­ing ar­rested at Birm­ing­ham In­ter­na­tional Air­port.

Po­lice nabbed the Pak­istani national – who lives and stud­ies in the UK – af­ter he left a flight from Dubai.

He is now be­ing ques­tioned by of­fi­cers from West Mid­lands Po­lice’s Counter Ter­ror­ism Unit.

A po­lice spokesman said: ‘A 22-year-old man was ar­rested at Birm­ing­ham air­port on sus­pi­cion of be­ing in pos­ses­sion of a doc­u­ment likely to be of use to a per­son com­mit­ting a ter­ror­ist of­fence, un­der sec­tion 58 of the Ter­ror­ism Act.”

It’s un­clear whether of­fi­cers acted on in­tel­li­gence or whether the sus­pect was ar­rested af­ter a cus­toms search.
