THE FAMILY OF DEATH

Father and two sons are brutal hammer killers

Midweek Sport - - NEWS -

A MAN, his two sons and a friend who went on a brutal “mission to murder” at a £3m luxury mansion have all been jailed for life.

Robert Johnston first took the three men on a shopping expedition where they bought a DIY “murder kit”, before driving for two hours in a builder’s van to carry out the torture and killing of “a family friend”.

The father and his sons had all fallen out with business associate Shaleem Amar, 33, who lived in a swanky home in Sunningdale, Berks, from where he ran a high-earning VAT scam.

Once at the sprawling mansion they cornered father-of-three Mr Amar in the kitchen and beat him with lump hammers they had just bought.

Still just alive, Mr Amar was put into a rubble sack which was then filled with sand and dumped in the back of their Mercedes Sprinter van.

While the van was still in the driveway of the home, Mr Amar’s wife Shajiba arrived to visit her husband from the house she shared with the couple’s three children.

The group told Mrs Amar that her husband had gone to the airport to collect someone. They then drove off but were later pulled over by suspicious police officers.

The day before the vicious killing Johnston, 57, and 56-year-old Matthews had visited a builders’ merchants where they bought the three hammers as well as four pairs of gloves, a wheelbarrow, a shovel and sacks.

The murder plot and execution of Mr Amar was revealed at Reading Crown Court where, following a six-week trial, Robert Johnston – also known as Derek – his sons Tom, 25, and Ben, 27, and friend Shaun Matthews were convicted of murder.

Judge Zoe Smith jailed all four men for life for the killing, ordering that the father must serve at least 28 years.

Passing sentence, she said: “You removed Mr Amar’s body from the house and had you not been stopped by the police you doubtlessly would have buried him.”
