Carol singers in Xmas burglaries

Midweek Sport - - NEWS - By JUSTIN DUNN

CUNNING thieves who posed as bogus CAROL SINGERS collecting for charity stole from homeowners on the run-up to Christmas.

Two young men who went out performing festive songs to raise cash stole one man’s mobile phone as he went to fetch them a donation.

He’d opened his front door to the suspects after they claimed to be collecting for a local charity.

They even showed him a card with writing from an organisation on it.

But when the kindly chap from Sittingbourne, Kent, went to fetch his wallet he came back to find his phone had been swiped and the two youths gone.

Police Inspector Julie Dodge said: “This was a particularly nasty crime – preying on the seasonal goodwill of victims.”
