£16,000? THAT’S A RUBBISH FINE!
A HOUSEHOLDER whose back garden was up to FIVE FEET deep in rubbish has been ordered to pay £16,000 by magistrates.
The lawn was piled high with rotting trash as well as household and builders’ waste, old clothes, bed linen, tree cuttings, scrap wood and electrical items.
The smell was so bad that one neighbour said she couldn’t use rooms backing on to the garden, Croydon Magistrates heard.
Mukesh Patel was convicted of two offences of unlawfully keeping controlled waste in a manner likely to cause the pollution of the environment or harm to human health at the house in south London.
Colin Green, Croydon’s environmental crime officer, said: “The amount of waste here was simply shocking. It made life very unpleasant for nearby residents for months.”
