Rolex raid in busiest street
MASKED raiders carried out a smash-and-grab in broad daylight in Britain’s busiest shopping street – making off with thousands of pounds worth of Rolex watches.
Horrified Christmas shoppers watched as four men on two scooters used sledgehammers to shatter the window of Leslie Davis jewellers on London’s Oxford Street at around 10am yesterday.
But as they tried to steal more jewellery the store’s ‘smoke screen’ went off, filling the window with thick smoke and forcing them to abandon the raid.
They then sped off in opposite directions, two heading towards Tottenham Court Road and the others going towards Marble Arch, leaving glass covering the pavement and a large whole in the window.
A police spokesman confirmed an investigation was underway.
