Mancini stunned over Bridge’s loan refusal

Midweek Sport - - SPORT -

ROBERTO MANCINI is gobsmacked that Wayne Bridge is happy to do nothing for his £90,000a-week wages at Manchester City.

Ex-england star Bridge, 31, is not even in City’s 25man Premier League squad and so could not fill in for Aleksander Kolarov and Gael Clichy who were suspended for the 1-0 win over Arsenal.

The former Chelsea man snubbed a loan move to Celtic in the summer.

Nedum Onuoha, who spent last season on loan at Sunderland, is in the same boat after City refused to pay his wages for another loan stint.

And Mancini cannot get his head around players that do not want to play.

“Sometimes I don’t understand why there is ready to hand Jonathan Woodgate an instant recall tonight – four days after his Molineux nightmare.

Defender Woodgate is poised to start against league leaders Man City and replace suspended skipper Ryan Shawcross.

Wonky Woodgate was substituted after only 19 minutes against Wolves on Saturday.

He was booked for a foul on Matt Jarvis and then gave away a penalty where he was fortunate to escape a red card.

But Pulis revealed: “Jonathan is likely to start against City. I’ve no problems putting him back in.

“The Wolves game has gone and he fully accepted the reasons behind my decision.

“He is a vastly experienced player and what happened on Saturday won’t affect him in the slightest.”
