Travel chaos as Brits end Xmas break
MOTORISTS suffered travel chaos on the roads yesterday as many Brits returned from their Christmas holiday breaks.
Traffic experts reported huge tailbacks and problems on parts of the M6 motorway in the West Midlands and North West, as well as the A1 in Cumbria, the M1 in the South East and the M25 around London.
A spokesperson for the Highways Agency said: “We are seeing traffic levels on motorways and major A-roads increase after the festive break.”
The extra congestion may also have been due to the hugely reduced rail services across the UK.
The Highways Agency also said the huge amount of traffic on the roads was as a result of the Boxing Day sales.
