Seamen wanted Down Under
MORE than 1,000 Brit sailors currently facing the axe under defence cuts could soon be moving Down Under.
The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) wants to entice the troops who are being made redundant, between now and 2015.
Skilled maintenance workers – in particular engineers – are at the top of its “wanted” list.
A RAN spokesman said: “Our Navy has been closely consulting with the Royal Navy on options for personnel affected by the downsizing.”
And the Royal Navy, which is giving redundant personnel a “comprehensive resettlement package”, is said to be “very comfortable” with the move.
More than 5,000 service staff are set to lose their jobs as part of the Government’s downsizing.
