Gin-sipping old woman tops our fave adverts list
A PO-FACED OAP who prefers gin to tea is the star of the year’s most popular TV advert.
The clip, used to advertise supermarket Aldi, saw off challenges from the John Lewis Christmas advert and Volkswagen’s ad which featured a small boy dressed as Darth Vader.
The Aldi ad shows a woman talking about her husband’s favourite brands of tea before pulling out a large gin and tonic and telling viewers, ‘I don’t like tea. I like gin’.
It came top in a poll carried out by research company Nielsen to find the most memorable ads.
Darren Moore, from Nielsen, said: “This year relatable characters replaced celebrities in the most-liked list.”
The Top 10 most-liked adverts of 2011 were... 1. Aldi. I buy this tea for my husband. 2. Comparethemarket. Sarah Roberts congrats from Meerkovo. 3. Volkswagen Passat. Boy as Darth Vader. 4.
