Great mail theft figures posted
A WHOPPING 1,759 postal workers have either been sacked or resigned for stealing mail in the last five years.
Bosses at the Royal Mail Group, which employs 163,000, released the figures after a Freedom of Information request.
They were asked for a breakdown of how many Royal Mail staff had left after being accused of theft at their workplace.
Royal Mail said the numbers include casuals and agency staff as well as permanent workers.
Bosses said: “The figures relate to the number of dismissals or resignations after interviews under caution.
“Royal Mail operates a zero tolerance approach across the business to dishonesty and, where there is evidence, we seek to ensure anyone stealing mail is robustly dealt with and brought before the courts.”
