WAYNE BRIDGE will have to wait to make his de­but af­ter seal­ing a loan switch to Sun­der­land.

The Man City de­fender fi­nalised a tem­po­rary move to the Sta­dium of Light un­til the end of the sea­son, with the Blues pick­ing up more than half his £85,000-aweek wages. De­spite de­fen­sive in­jury wor­ries, boss Martin O’neill won’t throw the 31-yearold straight into the ac­tion due to lack of match fit­ness.

O’neill said: “I’m pleased to have him and, with the num­ber of in­juries we’ve had re­cently, I’m sure he’ll be a big help to us.”

Ca­naries man­ager Paul Lam­bert aim­ing to show hero O’neill how far he has come by de­stroy­ing the Black Cats’ un­beaten run.

Sun­der­land are yet to lose at home un­der O’neill. But Lam­bert, who spent five years as a player un­der the North­ern Ir­ish­man at Celtic, said: “He was prob­a­bly one of the best I played un­der.

“If I could get a smudge of his suc­cess, I would be do­ing all right.

“It will be strange play­ing against him but that’s how the game goes.”
