A ROCK festival reveller who bashed another over the head with a rubber mallet after accusing him of stealing his LAUGHING GAS, has been spared jail.

Rui Teixeira-martinho marched up to Tom Pawsey at the Reading Festival, claiming him and his friends had nicked the legal high.

A row followed which led to an aggressive stand-off in which the Portuguese 44-year-old struck Mr Pawsey over the head with the mallet.

At Reading Crown Court the judge told him: “He pushed you away and you began to threaten him with a hammer.

“He said something to you like ‘come on then’ and absurdly you then hit him once on the head with a mallet.

“He and others then took you to the ground and you didn’t resist.

“It would seem that you could not have hit him too hard because, despite the weight of the mallet, he was dealt only a small cut to his head which needed glueing.”

Teixeira-martinho, of Lambeth, South London, who comes from a welloff family in Portugal, was handed a 26-week jail sentence, suspended for a year, and ordered to pay the victim £300 compensation.
