Py­lon plonker jailed 3 years

A DRUG ad­dict who risked death by tak­ing cable from a 130ft electricity py­lon has been jailed for three years.

Des­mond Brady ( 43, was in a gang that tried to steal the wire car­ry­ing 275,000 volts.

A judge at­tacked the reck­less crime and sent down Brady as a warn­ing to would-be me­tal thieves.

Bolton Crown Court was told how one mem­ber of the gang climbed the py­lon and cut the cable so Brady and a third man could coil it on the ground.

Po­lice were called af­ter an alarm was trig­gered by the in­ci­dent in Mid­dle­ton, Greater Manch­ester, last Au­gust.

Brady, of Rochdale, Lancs, ad­mit­ted at­tempted theft and dam­age which cost the Na­tional Grid £100,000 to re­pair.
