Pylon plonker jailed 3 years
A DRUG addict who risked death by taking cable from a 130ft electricity pylon has been jailed for three years.
Desmond Brady ( 43, was in a gang that tried to steal the wire carrying 275,000 volts.
A judge attacked the reckless crime and sent down Brady as a warning to would-be metal thieves.
Bolton Crown Court was told how one member of the gang climbed the pylon and cut the cable so Brady and a third man could coil it on the ground.
Police were called after an alarm was triggered by the incident in Middleton, Greater Manchester, last August.
Brady, of Rochdale, Lancs, admitted attempted theft and damage which cost the National Grid £100,000 to repair.
