NHS sued for a stuck door
A HEART attack patient is suing the NHS after he was forced to wait outside a hospital for 25 minutes – because ambulance staff couldn’t open the DOOR.
Rodney Ward, 45, was rushed to the dedicated heart unit in the early hours after a seizure at home.
He should have been admitted immediately for an emergency procedure to unblock his arteries but the ambulance crew was unable to gain entry to Bristol Heart Institute.
Mr Ward was left waiting on a trolley outside the ambulance for 25 minutes as paramedics tried to alert staff inside.
A nurse leaving after her shift finally spotted him.
The father-of-four had a cardiac arrest when he was finally moved onto a bed inside the hospital but no specialist team was waiting. His heart now operates at a third of its previous capacity.
