Cops in bid to close PM’S bar

PO­LICE want to close down a celebri­ties’ bar which once hosted a party for then Prime Min­is­ter Gor­don Brown.

The Newz bar is un­der threat af­ter a man was se­ri­ously in­jured in a knife at­tack on the premises in Jan­uary.

Po­lice feel that staff “breached trust” by deny­ing knowl­edge of the lat­est at­tack at the Liver­pool venue.

The knif­ing vic­tim suf­fered stab wounds to his face, back and arm, a slash wound to his left bi­cep, a cut to his eye, a large cut to the bridge of his nose and an­other to his left cheek.

Min­utes of a Coun­cil Li­cens­ing Com­mi­tee meet­ing re­vealed that “Mersey­side Po­lice have se­ri­ous con­cerns over public safety...and be­lieve it is nec­es­sary to sus­pend and, in time, re­voke the premises li­cence.”

The Newz bar said new se­cu­rity was in place.
