Lucy set for dear Watson role in US
CHARLIE’S ANGELS’ actress Lucy Liu is set to play Dr Watson in a new Sherlock Holmes telly series.
The 43-year-old babe will appear alongside Brit Jonny Lee Miller in new drama Elementary.
Lucy’s casting as Holmes’ sidekick is the second radical change – the show will be set in modern-day New York.
An insider said: “The casting of Lucy has took a lot of people by surprise. Nobody was expecting to see a woman in that part.
“Executives really want to shake things up and thought Lucy would be great in the role.”
Lucy – who shot to fame in Ally Mcbeal – will play disgraced former surgeon Joan Watson in the show.
And Sherlock is described as “a Brit with substance abuse problems”.
The Yank revamp has already angered BBC bosses as it is similar to their critically acclaimed TV show Sherlock.
The source added: “Lucy’s casting proves it’s going to be different to the BBC show.”
