Doped driver wins payout
A TRAIN driver has been given a payout for unfair dismissal despite being sacked for failing a DRUG TEST.
Barry Burnett, 45, claimed at a tribunal that he unwittingly ate cake and soup laced with cannabis at a Rastafarian funeral.
Mr Burnett, from Harrow, north London, failed a random drug test carried out by train operator Southeastern at Victoria Station.
Asked by his manager whether he had taken drugs, Mr Burnett said: “I hang around people who do.”
A panel at Central London Employment Tribunal accepted his explanation and ruled that Southeastern’s sacking was unfair.
He was awarded £2,300 compensation.
