River wee is trout of order
FISHERMEN have upset locals by peeing from a riverbank in full view of their homes.
Biggleswade town council in Bedfordshire was asked to make a 250-metre stretch of the River Ivel a no-fishing zone.
Residents complained about anglers who ‘treat the area like a urinal’.
There were also complaints about paper and other litter.
Councillors discussed making the area close to retirement flats a conservation area.
But both the no-fishing zone and the conservation area plans were dropped.
Fishing rights at the site are owned by the Ivel Protection Association and councillors agreed it was a matter for the organisation to deal with.
Coun Peter Vickers said “We have never complaints about this before.”
Coun Madeline Russell said damage to the river bank might have been caused by cattle.
