Roadworks fines double
FINES for overrunning roadworks will double from £2,500 to £5,000 a day, the Government has announced.
Transport minister Norman Baker revealed the tougher penalties for firms carrying out repairs and maintenance in a bid to cut delays and disruption for motorists.
The changes are due to come into effect in October.
The £5,000 per day charge will apply for the first three days of an overrun with fines of £10,000 for each following day.
Labour planned to charge firms £25,000 a day for every day after the first 72-hour period, but the coalition Government axed the proposal.
