Sister killed brother in row over cigarette
A WOMAN who stabbed her brother to death in a row over a cigarette has been jailed for life.
Claire Gray plunged the knife into brother Ashley’s chest at his house-warming party, a court heard.
Prosecutor Mark Giuliani said Gray, 22, was in a “fighting mood” and threatening revelers at her brother’s party on October 14 last year.
When she arrived at the party, Claire began threatening guests, insisting: “I’m gong to stab someone tonight.”
When the siblings began arguing over a cigarette, Claire threatened to stab him, saying: “Get a knife.”
Ashley went into the kitchen and returned with a 33cm-long carving knife which had a 21cm blade and dropped it into Claire’s lap as she sat.
Mr Gray told her: “Go on then, do it,” before she stabbed him in the chest in “a complete rage,” Teesside Crown Court was told.
The weapon severed his aorta and he fell to the floor, bleeding to death “within minutes” on the floor of his new home in Ferryhill, County Durham.
Claire Gray changed her not guilty to murder plea to guilty.
Passing sentence, Judge Peter Fox, said: “You have your life ahead of you.”
