Sis­ter killed brother in row over cig­a­rette

A WOMAN who stabbed her brother to death in a row over a cig­a­rette has been jailed for life.

Claire Gray plunged the knife into brother Ash­ley’s chest at his house-warm­ing party, a court heard.

Pros­e­cu­tor Mark Gi­u­liani said Gray, 22, was in a “fight­ing mood” and threat­en­ing rev­el­ers at her brother’s party on Oc­to­ber 14 last year.

When she ar­rived at the party, Claire be­gan threat­en­ing guests, in­sist­ing: “I’m gong to stab some­one tonight.”

When the sib­lings be­gan ar­gu­ing over a cig­a­rette, Claire threat­ened to stab him, say­ing: “Get a knife.”

Ash­ley went into the kitchen and re­turned with a 33cm-long carv­ing knife which had a 21cm blade and dropped it into Claire’s lap as she sat.

Mr Gray told her: “Go on then, do it,” be­fore she stabbed him in the chest in “a com­plete rage,” Teesside Crown Court was told.

The weapon sev­ered his aorta and he fell to the floor, bleed­ing to death “within min­utes” on the floor of his new home in Fer­ry­hill, County Durham.

Claire Gray changed her not guilty to mur­der plea to guilty.

Pass­ing sen­tence, Judge Peter Fox, said: “You have your life ahead of you.”
