POLICE had to Taser a DOG after it savaged a puppy and its owner.

Simon King, 37, was out walking his pet Rottweiler pup, Stella, when a Staffordshire bull terrier attacked in Weston-super-mare.

As the former fitter fought to prise his young dog from the other animal’s jaws, two cops who happened to be passing shot it with a Taser gun.

Mr King, who was left with deep wounds on his hand where he was bitten, praised the police for their intervention and said if they had not been there, his puppy Stella would have been killed.

He said: “Three young guys come from nowhere and this dog was behind them, off its lead.

“It saw Stella and went for her and sunk its teeth in to her neck.

“I punched and kicked it in the head but it just acted like I wasn’t even there.”

Even after it was shot the dog was little more than stunned.

There are 355 Avon and Somerset police officers licensed to carry a Taser.
