Rutherford, of Gloucester, pleaded guilty at Cheltenham Magistrates court to driving with excess alchol, without insurance and while banned.
When police arrested Rutherford, in Coney Hill, Gloucester, he admitted to officers he had drunk three cans of Carling.
“He said he thought he was a better driver when he had a drink and had borrowed the car from a friend,” said prosecutor Katheryn Jones.
Judge Bopa-rai told Rutherford: “You have quite a history and it is quite lucky that nobody has got hurt.
Rutherford was sentenced to six months in jail and banned from driving for a further five years.
