‘Beer makes me a bet­ter driver’

A PER­SIS­TENT drink driver told po­lice he drives BET­TER when un­der the in­flu­ence of al­co­hol!

Aden Ruther­ford, 31, who made the claim when he was ar­rested af­ter hit­ting a kerb, was jailed for six months for his fourth drink-drive of­fence.

Ruther­ford, of Glouces­ter, pleaded guilty at Chel­tenham Mag­is­trates court to driv­ing with ex­cess al­chol, with­out in­sur­ance and while banned.

When po­lice ar­rested Ruther­ford, in Coney Hill, Glouces­ter, he ad­mit­ted to of­fi­cers he had drunk three cans of Car­ling.

“He said he thought he was a bet­ter driver when he had a drink and had bor­rowed the car from a friend,” said pros­e­cu­tor Kath­eryn Jones.

Judge Bopa-rai told Ruther­ford: “You have quite a his­tory and it is quite lucky that no­body has got hurt.

Ruther­ford was sen­tenced to six months in jail and banned from driv­ing for a fur­ther five years.
