Saints are Up for transfer

NIGEL ADKINS is ready to rescue Matthew Upson from his Stoke frustration.

Southampton boss Adkins will target Upson for a summer switch, whatever the outcome of Saints’ promotion bid.

Upson, 32, has struggled for first-team football with the Potters since joining last summer from relegated West Ham.

The England centreback has only made four starts this season for Stoke.

Adkins will offer Upson a fresh start at St Mary’s and could get him for £500,000.
