Egg hunt bombshell

A MUM yesterday told of the heart-stopping moment her three-year-old boy trod on a live HAND GRENADE – during an Easter egg hunt.

Abi Sidaway, 31, noticed son Ben standing on a raised object and tried to pick it up thinking it was an Easter egg.

But she quickly realised what it was and an Army bomb squad was called to blow up the rusty grenade – thought to have been there since World War II.

The eggs-plosive incident happened as Abi took Ben and daughter Ellie, five, to a chocolate hunt in woodland at Holford, Somerset.

Abi, of Nether Stowey, Somerset, said: “I noticed this brown object and started playing with it with my feet.

“It looked like an Easter egg and was shaped exactly like one but I knew that it was definitely not because of the sheer weight of it. It was such a shock to find it was a grenade – I still can’t believe how lucky we all are.”
