HIGH-TECH ‘e-cigarettes’ could be just as harmful for you as normal fags, according to worried health boffins.

The electonic nicotine vapour inhalers were once hailed a godsend for smokers as they contain all the pleasure of a puff without the nasty side effects.

But now experts are concerned unregulated e-cigs from China are flooding the UK market, and could contain a glut of nasty chemicals as bad as the real thing.

Professor John Britton, chairman of the Royal College of Physicians’ Tobacco Advisory Group, has called for tighter control of the devices.

He said: “Electronic cigarettes have the potential to save lives but the fact that they are unregulated is bad.

“It leaves people open to using unclean and unsafe products.”
