‘Back from the dead to take woman hostage’
A WOMAN was held hostage by a man who she had presumed to be dead, a court was told.
Gary Johns, 46, and his partner Dennevla Buntin, 22, tied up the woman and tried to force her into making a sex tape to use against her if she “grassed him up” to police, it was claimed.
The mum-of-one was also threatened at knifepoint and told two vans were waiting outside the couple’s Hackney flat to take her away, Snaresbrook Crown Court heard.
The woman was subjected to the 24-hour ordeal when she went to collect her American pitbull terrier from Buntin, who had been caring for the dog while she visited Nigeria.
Prosecutor Matthew Dalton said: “She was surprised because she thought Mr Johns was dead, having been told this in February last year.”
When she said she needed to collect her daughter from school Johns insisted she could not leave because she now knew he was alive and would inform police.”
The woman only managed to escape the next day.
Buntin, of Colchester, and Johns, of no fixed address, both deny false imprisonment.
The trial continues.
