Thief scarred cutting cable
A COPPER thief nearly died and suffered permanent injuries after being electrocuted while sawing through a live cable in a sub-station.
An explosion occurred after Michael Stockton, who had been assured by his accomplices that the power was off, broke in and began to cut through the wire, a court heard.
Stockton, 35, who admitted he had been “an idiot”, became involved after being coerced by members of the travelling community.
Liverpool Crown Court heard Stockton plead guilty to burglary in Rainhill, which left 1,500 homes without electricity and caused up to £70,000 worth of damage.
He was given eight months’ jail suspended 12 months and placed under supervision and curfew.
