Drivers’ snub for 70yd lane
A 70-YARD bus lane has been slammed as so pointless bus drivers avoid using it.
The tiny stretch, in the Essex village of Bowers Gifford, is only of use to buses turning left.
Drivers wanting to go in other directions are forced to change lanes at the last minute and bus drivers don’t bother using it as it’s more trouble than it’s worth.
Locals claim they have suffered an appalling amount of noise and disturbance because of the multimillion-pound junction scheme.
One, Joan Hegwein, 67, said: “This bus lane has appeared from nowhere. There was no consultation on it. It is so short it seems pointless.”
An County Council spokesman said: “The bus lane was detailed in the planning application.”
